Upon my arrival in Cambridge UK a good friend gave me the following list of recommendations.  Too valuable to have it to myself, I put it up here.

    =================================================================================

On top of my head, here is a short list of good restaurants in the city center:

    -          Efes [Turkish] http://www.efesrestaurant-cambridge.co.uk/

    -          Chez Gerard [French],
    27-28 Bridge Street, Cambridge, CB2 1UJ

    -          Restaurant 22 [French-Modern]
    http://www.restaurant22.co.uk/
    22 Chesterton Road, Cambridge, CB4 3AX
[You may need a reservation for this restaurant.]

    -          Beduin [Algerian]
    98-100 Mill Road, Cambridge, CB1 2BD
[It is owned by the same family that runs Al Casbah, which is also quite good.]

    -          Jamie’s (owned by the famous Jamie Oliver) (Italian)
    http://www.jamieoliver.com/italian/cambridge
They don’t take reservation and it can get very busy during the peak hours.
Make sure that you order the tiramisu as a dessert.

    -          Hotel du Vin - French
    15-19 Trumpington Street, Cambridge, CB2 1QA

    -          Carluccio’s – Italian
One Fisher Square, Grand Arcade, Cambridge, CB2 3QF

    -          Loch Fyne – Seafood
    37 Trumpington Street, Cambridge, CB2 1QY

    -          CB2 – Reasonable good fast food, open until late (for Cambridge standards), nicely busy
    http://www.cb2bistro.com/

    -          Cotto – Italian
    http://www.cottocambridge.co.uk/
Very good restaurant (according to my wife, but very difficult to make a reservation)

    -          Patisserie Valerie – good for deserts and brunch, very close to your place
    http://www.patisserie-valerie.co.uk/cambridge.aspx

    -          La Margharita - Italian
    http://lamargheritacambridge.com/
They also have very nice icecreams.

There are not that many pubs with decent food, but some that come in mind are:

    -          The Old Spring
    1 Ferry Path, Cambridge, CB4 1HB

    -          The Free Press
3-5 Millers Yard, Mill Lane, Cambridge, CB2 1RQ

    -          The Castle
    http://thecastleinncambridge.com/
Meeting point for the computer lab folks on Friday evenings

    -          Do keep in mind that the safest pub food is burger!

Student’s favorite restaurants in Cambridge (cheap and reasonable good):

    -          PizzaExpress on Jesus Lane
    7a Jesus Lane, Cambridge, CB5 8BA
One of the rooms is actually very nice.

    -          Nando’s – Chicken, Portuguese style
    33-34 St Andrew Street, Cambridge, CB2 3AR

    -          Dojo – Japanese
1-2 Millers Yard, Mill Lane, off Trumpington Street, Cambridge, CB2 1RQ

    -          Charlie Chan
    14 Regent Street, Cambridge, CB2 1DB

    -          Teri-Aki - Japanese
    http://www.teri-aki.co.uk/
I really never figured out why so many students like this place.

    -          The Cow – Pizza’s
Corn Exchange Street, Cambridge, CB2 3QF
On Tue and Thu (I believe) they have buy 1 get 1 free pizza deal.

    And last, but not least:

    -          Midsummer House [French-Modern]
    It has two Michelin Stars‼
    http://www.midsummerhouse.co.uk/
    Very expensive

There are plenty of good Indian restaurants such as:

    -          The Rice Boat
    http://riceboat.com/

    -          The Curry Queen
    http://www.thecurryqueen.co.uk/

    -          Maharaja
    9 Castle Hill, Cambridge, CB3 0AH
