  • Inhotim, a fabulous cross between architecture, landscape, and art
    Visits 2012. 9. 3. 03:32

About a year and a half ago I visited Inhotim, a park in the city of Brumadinho about an hour-long bus ride away from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais in Brazil.  It was a huge park with absolutely fantastic gardens, galleries, and art work inside.  It houses the world-largest collection of palm trees, spread out to encompass about 20 of galleries, each for individual art pieces.  Everywhere we went in the park, we were buried in the fragrance of tropical flowers we couldn't name, and were smitten by the stunning landscapes, architectures and art work inside.  I've never seen anything like it.  At the time I was thinking about how to do interdisciplinary research and Inhotim gave me much to think about.  In urban settings art galleries and museums erect buildings and do gardens, but the focus is not in the gardens.  At Inhotim all three get a fair share of the attention in harmony.  Unlike in urban settings, the park has the sense of unboundedness. It seems like spreading out uninhibited.

And the restaurant there! Lunch in paradise!  The last picture gives a feel for the place.
