The first and only time I attended SIAM, I was pleasantly surprised that the entire luncheon was spent on awarding people for good work. Ever since, I'm all for more awards. I hear CS is the most critical of each other's work in NSF reviews and I wonder what the average review score is for NRF (Korean-NSF) reviews. In our CS community of conferences we award people _and_ papers, the latter of which is not common in other fields (except for big IEEE events for my limited knowledge).
